Alleged sonic attacks, another attack on the Cuban economy!

This past February 17, the State Department and the U.S. embassy in Havana, reported, for the first time, to Cuba’s Foreign Ministry and diplomatic mission in Washington, the alleged occurrence of sonic attacks between November of 2016 and February, 2017.

Cuban doctors conducted thorough medical examinations of persons living close to the residences of U.S. diplomats and none experienced any similar health or hearing problems.

This past February 17, the State Department and the U.S. embassy in Havana, reported, for the first time, to Cuba’s Foreign Ministry and diplomatic mission in Washington, the alleged occurrence of sonic attacks between November of 2016 and February, 2017.
According to statements by U.S. authorities, these incidents were produced by long-range sonic devices, which affected the health of diplomatic personnel and their family members.
What is a sonic attack? A sonic attack is defined as the emission of high decibel sound to generate different physical and cognitive reactions, with the goal of neutralizing a person with the use of non-lethal weapons or equipment available on the market.
This type of technology does not exist in Cuba and the commercial import of any equipment with these functions is prohibited. Thus, its introduction into the country could only be accomplished in an illegal fashion.

The US blockade adversely affects Cuba´s foreign trade.

New York, October 24, 2017. The economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba had a significant impact on Cuba´s foreign trade between April 2016 and April 2017, causing an estimate of 3,524,993,996.32 dollars in damage.

As in previous years, the most affected indicator was income from exports of goods and services, which accounted for 83.6% of total damages. During that period, there was also an increase of 42% in the cost of financing received due to country risk. Numerous examples show how this policy has a negative impact on the development of the Cuban economy.

The Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) has developed product Heberprot-P, a unique medicine worldwide in the therapy of severe diabetic foot ulcer (DFU). This drug has benefited more than 230,000 patients worldwide and has obtained 21 health records and more than 30 patents have been granted.

Statistics show that the prevalence of diabetes in the United States is 9.3%, which is equivalent to about 29.2 million people. According to US sources, 3.5% of them develop DFUs, which represents more than one million people each year. Of these, 204 296 could develop complex DFUs. If Heberprot-P were exported to benefit only 5% of US citizens who develop a complex DFU per year, this would help to significantly reduce the over 70,000 amputations carried out annually in the United States in diabetic patients. The biotechnology industry in Cuba could also receive revenues of about 122 million dollars a year.

Dr. Olaine Gray Lovio, recommends avoiding the sun during the hours of greatest intensity, between 10:00am and 5:00pm; wearing clothes of pastel colors that almost entirely cover the skin; using hats and parasols to protect the face; and applying sunscreen.

The prevalence of skin cancer in Cuba and the development of therapeutic injectibles to treat allergies caused by dust mites, were among issues discussed during several international conferences on dermatology and allergies, taking place in Havana’s International Conference Center, October 4-7.

Dr. Olaine Gray Lovio explained to the press, prior to the events, that malignant growths on the skin are among the most prevalent cancers on the island, given the tropical climate and strong solar radiation during a large part of the day.

Every year in Cuba, approximately 8,000 cases of this disease, described as basal or squamous cell carcinoma or melanoma, are diagnosed, causing some 400 deaths. Emphasis is therefore being placed on reducing direct exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays, especially in the first 20 years of life.

On September 29, 2017, the US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson announced the decision to significantly downscale the diplomatic staff of the US embassy in Havana and withdraw all their relatives, claiming that there had been “attacks” perpetrated against US Government officials in Cuba which have harmed their health.
Once again, on October 3, the US Government, in an unwarranted act, decided that 15 officials of the Cuban Embassy in Washington should depart from the United States, claiming that the US had reduced their diplomatic staffing levels in Havana and that the Cuban Government had failed to take all appropriate steps to prevent “attacks” against them.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly protests and condemns this unfounded and unacceptable decision as well as the pretext used to justify it, for it has been asserted that the Cuban Government did not take the appropriate measures to prevent the occurrence of the alleged incidents.
In the meeting that, at the proposal of the Cuban side, was held with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, the minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, warned him against the adoption of hasty decisions that were not supported by evidence; urged him not to politicize a matter of this nature and once again required the effective cooperation from the US authorities to clarify facts and conclude the investigation.
