Over the last few weeks, international media have reported the intention of OAS General Secretary Luis Almagro Lemes to travel to Havana, in order to receive a “prize” invented by an illegal grouplet, which operates in concert with the ultra-right wing Foundation for Pan American Democracy, created in the days of the 7th Summit of the Americas in Panama, to channel efforts and resources in opposition to legitimate, independent governments in Our America.

The plan, plotted during several trips to Washington and other capitals of the region, consisted of mounting a serious, open provocation against the Cuban government in Havana, generating internal instability, damaging the country’s international image, and at the same time, affecting the positive development of Cuba’s diplomatic relations with other states. Perhaps some calculated poorly and thought that Cuba would sacrifice its fundamental principles to maintain appearances.

Guantánamo residents affected by Hurricane Matthew have benefited from donations by various UN bodies.
Guantánamo.– On February 22, Unicef program coordinator, Victoria Colamarco highlighted the impact of recovery efforts undertaken by the people of Guantánamo, together with national and international support, following Hurricane Matthew.
The UN representative also emphasized the impact of donations benefiting both children and communities in affected regions; noting the gratitude expressed by recipients.
The Unicef official went on to state that fund-raising actions to support recovery efforts in Guantánamo will continue.
Colamarco led a delegation of Unicef representatives in Cuba who visited areas affected by the hurricane, in order to strengthen coordination efforts with local governments and follow-up on the distribution of resources donated to the four most severely affected municipalities.

Browsing the web reveals an extraordinary number of sites citing the strength of Cuba’s pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, along with the number of countries purchasing Cuban products for their populations. Yet the corporate media makes little mention of this accomplishment.
Among the country’s most important, latest-generation medications is Heberprot P, used by more than 225,000 patients in many countries to treat diabetic foot ulcers and avoid a large percentage of amputations. It is currently administered via nano-capsules, making the drug’s anti-microbial impact very effective.

If the creation of the first Cuban-made computer (CID-201), was a genuine technological achievement which opened new pathways on the road to the development of information technology in the country during the 1970s, then the inauguration, at the end of last year, of a factory producing portable tablets and computers, is a clear demonstration of the encouraging prospects in this sphere.
The first sixth generation Core i3, Celeron and Core i5 laptops will be ready this month; as well as eight and ten inch tablets, which will initially be destined for the wholesale market in order to supply state institutions and organizations affiliated with Central State Administration, representing a step forward in efforts to continue expanding the computerization of Cuban society, in accordance with the country’s financial possibilities.
René Cano Díaz, director general of the Informatics, Communications and Electronics Industrial Enterprise (Gedeme), leading the project, explained that the whole process was completed in less than four months, including the installation of the production line and training personnel responsible for assembling the devices.
He added that the new project is a collaborative initiative with the Chinese company Haier, which is providing technology, equipment, know-how, quality control laboratories and staff training, as well as the raw materials for production.
