Hours before the start of the popular tribute to our 32 heroes who fell in the line of duty in the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, it has been decided, as a fitting and well-deserved tribute, that all of them will be posthumously promoted in military rank.

Cuba denounces military escalation in the Caribbean region

Photo: Bruno Rodríguez’s X account

The exaggerated and aggressive military presence of the United States in the region constitutes a threat to Latin America and the Caribbean as a whole.

With the backing of the Secretary of State, the main and immediate goal is the violent overthrow of the Venezuelan government through the use of U.S. military force, a highly dangerous and irresponsible action with unpredictable and incalculable consequences.

Given the clear degree of threat, this constitutes a violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.

With a military escalation, a major international crime could be committed.

This aggression responds to a warmongering objective that is not shared by the majority of the U.S. people.

If war breaks out, where will the Secretary of State be? Does anyone really think he will accompany young soldiers to risk their lives in a battle that is not theirs? One would have to ask him if he ever served in the military.

The pretext of combating illegal drug trafficking is an untenable lie.

Such a concentration of naval resources, so large and sophisticated, with such destructive firepower, is not deployed to combat criminal organizations.

The U.S. government could cause an incalculable number of deaths and create a scenario of violence and instability in the hemisphere that would be unimaginable.

The threat of war does not solve any of the internal political and economic problems of the United States; it distances the possibilities of a constructive relationship and understanding in the region, while demonstrating to new generations the old distrust of the Latin American and Caribbean peoples regarding the ambitions of their powerful neighbor to the north.

Cuba denounces this military escalation in the strongest possible terms and reaffirms its full support for Venezuela.

We also appeal to the common sense, solidarity, spirit of peace, and ethics of the international community.

We appeal to the people of the United States to stop this madness.

Urgent need to prevent military aggression against Venezuela

The Revolutionary Government denounces the escalation of actions by the United States government to justify military aggression against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
The accumulation and increase of military resources and personnel in the Caribbean Sea, the use of force to attack civilian vessels and kill their crews, and the unjustified interception and detention of a ship, in violation of international norms, confirm the hostile and irresponsible nature of the ongoing operation.
Added to this is the dissemination of psychological warfare messages by the U.S. government in an attempt to legitimize these actions in the eyes of public opinion under the crude pretext that Venezuela represents a threat to U.S. national security and the well-being of its citizens.
The U.S. Secretary of State, congressmen, and senators, who are also responsible for the current genocidal escalation in Gaza, are attempting to impose their interests by force in Venezuela, which is unjustifiable and dangerous.
The real objective of these actions is to take control of Venezuela’s oil and resources.
Cuba has repeatedly warned that the deployment of U.S. military forces in the Caribbean Sea in recent weeks constitutes an act of provocation and is intended to trigger a military conflict that would force the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
A direct military aggression against Venezuela would have incalculable consequences for the peace, stability, and security of Our America.
No government can be allowed to resort to the threat or use of force in contravention of the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations and international law.
It is urgent to separate lies from reality.
Cuba urges international mobilization to prevent aggression and preserve Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, as proclaimed by its heads of state and government.

(Verbatim versions – Presidency of the Republic)

Dear Nicolas:

I wanted to thank you, first of all, for calling us to this meeting and for being there. What we celebrate today is much more than the anniversary of an Agreement; it is the rebirth of Bolivar’s dream, to which [José] Martí also devoted all his energies; and I believe this is the moment when the integration of Our America, for which he fought so hard, has been the closest to becoming a reality.

Although it is not yet in our history books, the signing of the Comprehensive Cooperation Agreement between Cuba and Venezuela is a historic event and what we are commemorating today is also a historic event. Among other things, because it is an act of independence that marks a new era for Latin America and the Caribbean; it is a time of exchange among equals, of turning words into actions, of expressing solidarity in concrete works for the benefit of the peoples. It is also the seed from which the ALBA tree would sprout.

The visionary decision of two great leaders such as Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and Commander Hugo Chávez Frías, of signing this document, can be better appreciated 20 years after the will of two sovereign governments that do not bow to imperial pressures became a reality.
