Bolivian President Evo Morales began his official visit to Cuba this morning, Friday, May 20. Morales has traveled to the island to review the current state of bilateral relations and expand cooperation ties between the two nations, among other activities.
The Bolivian leader, who was received at Havana’s José Martí International Airport by First Vice President of the Councils of State and Ministers Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, will pay tribute to Cuba’s national hero José Martí at the Plaza de la Revolución this afternoon and meet with the President of the Councils of State and Ministers, Army General Raúl Castro.
This visit by Bolivia’s first indigenous President is also a demonstration of the strong ties which unite the two countries. Morales has repeatedly highlighted the continued support offered by Cuba to his country, despite the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States.
Both nations have been at the forefront of denouncing acts of aggression against progressive governments of the region.
