“Cuba is working tirelessly for the safe return of Assel (Herrera) and Landy (Rodríguez), our doctors abducted in Kenya,” stated Miguel Díaz-Canel, President of Cuba’s Councils of State and Ministers, on his Twitter account, adding, “We share the certainty, with them and their loved ones, that their humanitarian mission will be respected and recognized. We believe in the power of solidarity.”
Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla likewise tweeted, “I held a telephone conversation with the Kenyan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mónica Juma. We discussed the abduction of the two Cuban doctors and actions being taken by the government of this country given the unfortunate incident.”
On both of these Twitter accounts, it was made clear that other Cuban doctors are safe and fully informed of every step being taken to rescue their two colleagues.

With the presence of Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee; and Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, President of the Councils of State and Ministers; and other authorities of the Republic of Cuba, the Second Extraordinary Session of the Ninth Legislature of the National Assembly of People’s Power was convened, in which the new Constitution of the Republic of Cuba will be proclaimed

A group of young members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces ceremonial battalion entered the hall carrying the new Constitution.
Raúl, Díaz Canel, and Lazo stood awaiting them, and the first accepted the historic document and placed it on a pedestal, alongside the Guáimaro Magna Carta.
Lazo announced the closing of the extraordinary session and affirmed that the Constitution was proclaimed today, April 10, to guide the country’s present and future.
Raúl came down from the Presidential platform and shook hands with members of the Councils of Ministers sitting in the first row, while Díaz-Canel greeted deputies and Council of State and Ministers members sitting on the platform. It is not news that the Trump administration has canceled the agreement signed by the MLB and the Cuban Baseball Federation, on December 19, after three years of hard work by both parties.And it is not because the agreement sought to end the human suffering of Cuban athletes. In January of this year, the MLB, not Cuba, sent a letter to the United States government, detailing their plans and intentions with this new deal, stating that it was mainly directed toward avoiding the trafficking in persons that Cubans usually face when leaving the country and the harsh conditions they face in order to be contracted by a Major League team, citing the examples of Yasiel Puig, Yoan Moncada, José Abreu, and Yoenis Céspedes, among others.These “harsh conditions” include the very high risk of losing one’s life to sports merchants conspiring with unscrupulous individuals engaged in illegal trafficking of persons, as happened to Puig, who was taken out of Cuba by traffickers linked to a Mexican drug cartel, according to court testimony.

Cuban President Díaz-Canel Bermúdez expressed his support, yesterday April 7, for the demand that Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva be freed, one year after his unjust imprisonment, tweeting, “We demand freedom for Lula.”
On the occasion of a worldwide day of action calling for the former Brazilian President’s freedom, some 10,000 people from around the country gathered in Curitiba this weekend for a vigil marking the 365th day of the Workers Party leader’s incarceration, demanding his freedom and denouncing the reactionary social and economic measures of the Bolsonaro government.
This Sunday Lula da Silva sent a letter to the Brazilian people saying that his voice is that of millions, and that the setbacks suffered will only strengthen the struggle since we are “alive and strong.”
“They are afraid of the millions of Lulas. Because they know what we are capable of when we come together to transform this country. … Together, we are going to reverse every setback, every step back on the difficult path to the Brazil we dream of, that we will prove is possible to build. We will win,” he said.
