Cuba reached, this April 26, the figure of one million international visitors received, informed Juan Carlos García Granda, head of the Ministry of Tourism (Mintur), in his account in X.
This result, he said, was achieved a few days before the start of the 42nd International Tourism Fair (fitCuba 2024), from May 1 to 5, in Jardines del Rey, dedicated to Latin America and the Caribbean and nautical products.
Previously, the National Bureau of Statistics and Information highlighted that, at the end of March, 809,238 visitors had arrived, mostly from Canada, as the first issuer, in addition to the Cuban community abroad, Russia, the United States, Germany, France, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Spain and Argentina.
Cuba aims to surpass three million visitors in 2024, a year that, according to García Granda, will see a recovery compared to 2023, and for which the conditions are in place.
On the other hand, this Monday will take place the seminar “Enhancing tourism development through innovation in community tourism”, prior to the 69th meeting of the UN Regional Commission on Tourism for the Americas, to be held on April 30.

The 42nd International Tourism Fair, FitCuba 2024, started on May 1st in Jardines del Rey, dedicated to Latin America and the Caribbean; an area that, in the words of Gustavo Santos, regional director of UN Tourism, could be a major multi-destination zone.
In statements to the press, the official stressed that this is a market of 500,000,000 people in which connectivity must continue to be stimulated, an aspect on which Cuba is working, and which will be reflected both in the number of visitors arriving on the island and in the country’s development.
He stressed that, with its participation in FitCuba 2024, UN Tourism shows its support to this event, considered the most important professional event of the Cuban tourism industry.
Santos stressed also that tourism is a fundamental tool for the economic growth of countries, in compliance with the 2030 Agenda; first, because it represents an activity whose resources are natural and/or cultural, as a factor of sustainability and preservation. Second, because it is one of the productive activities that is most supported by the strategic objectives of the United Nations.
He added that the organization he represents promotes accessible tourism and works to prepare the infrastructure and services “not only as a moral fact, but also as an economic fact”.
FitCuba 2024 will present a wide range of business opportunities in Cuba and the potential of the sector to tour operators, travel agencies, hoteliers, suppliers and related professionals.

Now that that we are seeing an unprecedented rise in the rate of tourist arrivals to Cuba, motivated by the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between the island and the U.S., one question is dominating the media agenda.
Will the Cuban tourist industry be able to cope with the anticipated “wave” of visitors?
After reaching a record three million visitors, the initial reports for 2015 are promising.
According to official figures, more than two million vacationers arrived in Cuba between January and July, representing a 15.9% increase, as compared to last year.
Preliminary estimates suggest that this trend will continue to grow, with four million international visitors predicted to arrive to the island by the end of the year, bearing in mind the current situation, which has seen the number of U.S. tourists double in comparison to figures registered in previous periods.
