State Department drops Cuba entirely from annual detail of terrorist activity

After spending 33 years designated a state sponsor of terrorism by the U.S. government, Cuba no longer has any activity that even merits its own report in the State Department’s annual review of terrorist threats around the world.

Cuba and EU seize opportunity from Trump and approve first-ever trade deal

In an apparent snub to U.S. President Donald Trump, the European Parliament has approved a pact with Cuba that would expand trade and dialogue channels with the island nation.
The Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement was approved in Strasbourg, France, on Wednesday (July 6), by 567 votes to 65, with 31 abstentions. A provisional implementation of the deal is expected to begin within months.
The European Union’s website said that the pact “will help expand bilateral trade, promote dialogue and economic cooperation and provide for joint action on the world scene.”
The EU’s statement goes on to say that “without clearly mentioning the U.S. embargo, [the parliamentarians] are opposed to ‘laws and measures with extraterritorial effect,’ given that they are ‘harmful to the Cuban population.’ The EU-Cuba deal should contribute to improving the living conditions and social rights of Cuban citizens, [the parliamentarians] add.”

Caracas.- Recent months have shown that demonstrations by opposition groups in Venezuela are far from peaceful, despite their organizers claiming the opposite.
In recent weeks, the actions unleashed by extremists linked to the self-styled Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD), have been marked by vandalism, as seen on Friday, June 23, when they burned vehicles near an air base located in Miranda state.
Three articulated trucks for transporting food, and a Bolivarian National Police (PNB) vehicle were set on fire in the vicinity of the Generalísimo Francisco de Miranda air base, known as La Carlota.
These violent groups have maintained a siege on this military installation for several days, and according to testimony broadcast by the Zurda Konducta program on Venezolana de Televisión, two drivers of these vehicles confirmed that the instigators wielded firearms.
Emiliano Pulido, one of the drivers, explained, “They grabbed my son and me and stopped us with pistols in hand. I was kidnapped by three hooded people; I was brought down from the truck by a blow and at gunpoint. They had 9mm pistols, and if I’m not mistaken, they had rifles.”
