More than 60 years after its founding, the Non-Aligned Movement ministerial coordinating bureau met in Caracas, and Cuba reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to multilateralism and efforts to advance towards a fair and equitable democratic international order that responds to the demands of peace and sustainable development of all peoples – for a world, as Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla said, “that is possible if we struggle together to achieve it.”

“On the economic plane, underdevelopment, poverty, hunger, and marginalization are the result of the reigning unjust international economic order, which has been aggravated as a result of the impact of neoliberal policies,” Rodriguez stated.In an international scenario he described as “dangerous and complex,” in which the security and well-being of our nations face unprecedented challenges, and in which unity and solidarity for peace and development of our peoples are indispensable, the Non Aligned Movement must remain – by its own decision – as defined by the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution: anti-imperialist, anti-colonialist, anti-neocolonialist, anti-racist, anti-Zionist, and antifascist, “because these principles… are the essence, the origin, the life, and history of the Movement .”This is this futurist vision shared by Comandante en Jefe Fidel Castro during the organization’s third Ministerial Coordination Bureau meeting, held in Havana, in March 1975.

TheDíaz-Canel receives actor Danny Gloverof Cuba’s Councils of State and Ministers, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, on Monday afternoon received the actor and film director Danny Glover, who is visiting our country to attend the 20th graduation at Havana’s Latin American School Medicine (ELAM).

During the cordial meeting, discussed was the importance of promoting artistic exchanges between Cuba and the United States, based on existing historical and cultural ties. President Díaz-Canel expressed his concern regarding the negative impact this arena has suffered, as a result of the deterioration in bilateral relations, while reiterating his willingness to move forward with sectors in the U. S. that favor improved relations.

The visitor was accompanied by James Early, director of Cultural Studies and Communication at the Smithsonian Institute’s Center for Folklife Programs and Cultural Studies, in Washington; Allen Warren, city council member in Sacramento, California; and Dr. Luther Castillo, a Honduran doctor who graduated from ELAM.

Also attending on the Cuban side were Noemí Rabaza, first vice president of the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples, and Carlos Fernández de Cossío, general director for the United States at the Foreign Ministry.

The current U.S. administration, which despises multilateralism and is intent upon returning the world to the worst of times, using the most impudent threats, with insolent interference and constant ultimatums, including the possibility of invasions, has publicly declared, more than once, its goal of destroying any alternative development, different from the savage capitalism it attempts to develop in the region.

Venezuela, Nicaragua and Cuba are the nations whose political processes do not accept the Trump administration’s resurrection of the Monroe Doctrine… sinking into a morass of ridiculous lies to ensure that three Latin American nations, struggling to overcome inherited underdevelopment, threaten the powerful empire.
The novelty lies in the tactics of unconventional warfare, which go from the symbolic to the real: from so-called fake news to sabotage, to the computer networks that sustain the vitality of the country.
Those who are now in charge of the political leadership of this influential nation have shown that they disregard commitments and legal instruments freely agreed upon by the great majority of states, ignoring the right to self-determination of peoples, and denying the principle of sovereign equality among nations.
They believe that their government’s desires can be imposed on others, including their own allies, through threat or punishment, with the imposition of punitive trade tariffs and other coercive, unilateral measures. In more serious cases, they resort to unconventional warfare or armed conflicts, regardless of the consequences, the coups, or the open, overt imposition of so-called “regime change” strategies.
They intend to quickly destroy the system of international relations built around the norms and principles of the United Nations Charter.In the Western Hemisphere, the United States government has openly declared the validity and implementation of the infamous Monroe Doctrine, an old instrument of colonialism, neocolonialism, and imperialism, which denies the right to self-determination, threatens the sovereignty of all nations in the Americas, without exception, and seeks to intimidate the entire world.
The conduct of the United States toward Cuba continues to cling to the objective of economic strangulation, through the tightening of the blockade, the promotion of political subversion, to which tens of millions of dollars are dedicated every year with the intention of dividing, confusing, and weakening the unity of our people, and a fierce propaganda campaign aimed at discrediting the Revolution, its leaders, its glorious historical legacy; denigrating our economic and social policies in favor of development and justice; and liquidating political forces of the left and popular movements, resorting to McCarthyism to attempt to destroy the ideas of socialism.
As Raúl pointed out last April 10 before this Assembly, “Despite its immense power, imperialism does not possess the capacity to break the dignity of a united people, proud of its history and of the freedom conquered with so much sacrifice.”

The Third Period of Ordinary Sessions of the Ninth Legislature of the National Assembly of People’s Power, that concluded July 13, began the extensive legislative process required to concretize the new Constitution’s stipulations.

Participating were Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, first secretary of the Party Central Committee; Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, President of the Councils of State and Ministers; Second Party Secretary José Ramón Machado Ventura; and Esteban Lazo Hernández, Political Bureau member and president of the Assembly. Deputies approved three new laws of special importance: an Electoral Law, a National Symbols Law, and a Fisheries Law, the first on this subject to be approved at the national level.

The Assembly also elected the National Electoral Council, to be headed by Alina Balseiro, and reviewed issues of central relevance to the country’s development, including the performance of the 2019 Economic Plan during the first half of the year and the close-out report for the 2018 state budget, reaffirming the national priorities identified by Army General Raúl Castro Ruz: defense of the homeland and the economic battle.

Initiating the session, Esteban Lazo recalled the “memorable” session held last April 10, when the country’s new Constitution was proclaimed, demanding “more dynamism, sensibility, patriotism, and intelligence, in order to confront the challenges and keep the homeland free, independent, and sovereign.”
