Havana, June 9 (ACN) First Secretary of Cuba’s Communist Party and Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez called on the people in the island’s eastern territories to reinforce all protection measures in the face of the difficult weather condition affecting the region for days now.
Local forces with the civil defense, the interior ministry and the armed forces are already implementing protection measures, said the President on Twitter.

Diaz-Canel previously tweeted about his talks with the Communist Party leaders in each province, while a working team led by Deputy Prime Minister Jorge Luis Tapia and several ministers are on their way to the hard hit territories.

Very heavy rains have been affecting the island’s central and eastern territories leading to significant rainwater accumulates in the area, according to the National Water Resources and the Meteorology Institute.

In the province of Granma, for instance, authorities reported property damage inflicted by flooding, overflowing rivers and landslides. Similar events occurred in areas of Las Tunas, Santiago de Cuba and Camaguey provinces.

Havana, June 6 (ACN) Poetry is common good; we cannot allow expression be overwhelmed by fascist ideas, said Cuban poetess Nancy Morejon in Paris during the literary forum “Poetry is my Flag”, as part of her denunciation of recent harassment against her.

In a statement uploaded to social media, the Cuban National Literature Laureate defended Cuban culture and condemned hatred-motivated messages against poetry, masked behind an allege defense of freedom of expression.

In the presence of intellectuals, poets and friends of Cuba in Paris, Morejon recalled the legacy of great figures of Cuban poetry such as Nicolas Guillen, Ruben Martinez Villena and Fina Garcia Marruz.

The outstanding Cuban writer received from renowned poet Francis Conde a letter signed by over 300 poets and intellectuals condemning the harassment she faced by hatred-motivated circles, who influenced the revocation of her position as president of honor of the 40th Paris 2023 Poetry Market event.

HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 7 (ACN) During a meeting between Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero and Russian VP Dmitry Chernyshenko, both countries ratified their will to strengthen economic, commercial and scientific-technical cooperation.

The exchange took place in the context of the official visit that the Cuban premier is paying to Russia since Tuesday to continue the talks held between presidents Miguel Díaz-Canel and Vladimir Putin in November 2022 and to attend the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, to be held on June 8-9 in Sochi.

At the meeting, Marrero expressed his satisfaction at the results of the 20th Session of the Intergovernmental Commission for economic-commercial and scientific-technical cooperation held in Havana in May.

As he addressed recently by videoconference the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, Díaz-Canel stressed that, for Cuba, increasing relations with the states of the Eurasian Economic Union (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia) is a priority.

Cuba is the only Latin American country with observer status in the Council—granted to the Island in December 2020—which facilitates the registration and positioning of Cuban biotechnological and pharmaceutical products, especially in markets with high purchasing power, such as the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan, according to the Caribbean government.
