The Cuban Revolution once again received this January 1st, the congratulations and recognition of millions of people who continue to see it as an example of resistance in the face of the aggressiveness of the greatest empire humanity has ever known.

Expressions of affection and respect came through social networks, public events, demonstrations and messages from heads of state and government were received by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez on the occasion of the 64th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution.

According to the Cuban Foreign Ministry, there were letters of congratulations from some 50 leaders, including His Holiness Pope Francis; the presidents of China, Egypt, France, Italy, Vietnam, Turkey, Switzerland, Greece, Germany, Ireland, Austria, Poland, Dominican Republic, Australia, Croatia, Sri Lanka, Palestine and Panama; the kings of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Spain and Morocco.

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro wrote on Twitter: “The memorable victory of the revolutionary people of Cuba still shakes consciences in the world, disturbing the pretensions of the Yankee imperialism to sustain its hegemony over the rebel wave that advances demanding justice. Long live Cuba, always victorious!”

In the same social network, Bolivian leader Evo Morales exalted “the worthy people of Cuba and its President Díaz-Canel, for keeping alive the flame of freedom that illuminates the course of dignity, unity and solidarity of the anti-imperialist Patria Grande.

“This historic day brings us closer to the memory of the conviction and loyalty of brother Commander Fidel Castro who, together with revolutionary brothers like Che Guevara, defeated Yankee imperialism. It is a day to demand the United States to lift the criminal blockade against Cuba,” he added.

In previous days, also through Twitter, the Cuban Head of State had informed of his telephone exchanges with Presidents Putin and López Obrador, in which he had received congratulations for the national day.

Likewise, Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega and Vice President Rosario Murillo sent a letter to Army General Raúl Castro Ruz and to the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party, in which they wrote: “64 years of dignity and unwavering sovereignty, which we celebrate today together, as revolutions illuminated by the genius and the enlightened vision of Fidel, whom Nicaragua Sandinista knew how to be twinned, in the same search for rights and welfare for our peoples. Living this 64th anniversary is already a privilege, and to live it fully, in battles and triumphs, honors us all even more,” they added.

Dmitriv A. Medvedev, vice-president of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, also sent his message to the Cuban leader, with “sincere congratulations on the occasion of the National Holiday of the Republic of Cuba, the Liberation Day.”

I am convinced, he wrote, “that the traditionally fraternal relations will continue to develop progressively, in the spirit of strategic partnership for the good of our friendly peoples.”

From Belarus, President Aleksandr Lukashenko said in his statement that “under severe economic sanctions and political pressure, the Island of Freedom continues to defend its independence. Attempts by the United States and its allies to dictate against small but independent countries, such as Belarus and Cuba, oblige us to stand firm and move forward with determination.”
